The coast and bays around Çeşme are some of the Mediterranean’s most popular destinations for watersports enthusiasts. The nearby resort of Alaçati is famous for its windsurfing, with its consistently fresh northerly winds and well-protected bay. A couple of miles north of the marina, Pirlanta Beach has rapidly become the kitesurfing capital of Turkey, and the neighbouring bay played host to the 2008 Optimist dinghy world championships.

There are countless opportunities on the beach for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving, with the local islands providing some of the most impressive underwater scenery.

Activities ashore include cycling and climbing, while those looking for pure relaxation or recuperation will enjoy the thermal baths at Ilica. Emerging from the ground at 60°C, the water’s mineral content has been used to help heal many ailments, from rheumatism to stress and insomnia.
